Hi, I'm pretty sure the child must be hyper while studying something that he lacks interest in. Usually, in cases like these, what could be done is:

  1. Get the child to calm down before making him study ( by tiring him out ). Once all the hyperactive energy is drained, it will help him to stay in one place.
  2. I usually keep a yellow ball in my hand, which I keep throwing back and forth between the student and my self. This way, the attention of the child is grabbed.
  3. The most common technique is reward and reinforcement. Verbally let the child know that he could get something as a reward if he completes a specific portion ( set small goals, they shouldn't be too big or too small, though). For instance, something like this could be conveyed " if you complete writing A - L alphabets, I can give you extra tv time, but if you don't, I may have to cut short your tv time ".

If it is an online session, talk to the parents and ask them to let him play and exert his energy before sitting for the session.

Honestly, it all depends on the child and his personality.

Let me know if it did help. 👍
