Teaching Experience in detail in Tabla Classes
Rishik Bhattacharya is a Tabla artist, percussionist, performer, and musician with more than 10 years of training and experience. Tabla has been at the heart of his musical journey from a young age, and he has dedicated himself to developing his understanding of technique, taal, repertoire, accompaniment, improvisation, and performance. His musical foundation is rooted in the Farrukhabad gharana tradition, which has helped him develop an appreciation for the discipline, precision, and musical sensitivity that Tabla demands. At present, Rishik is pursuing a Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA) in Tabla at the Maya Somaiya School of Music, Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai. He stood first in his class in the first year of his BPA (Tabla), encouraging him to continue developing both academically and as a performing musician. Over the years, Rishik has performed on several platforms and participated in competitions and collaborative performances. His experiences include a Tabla jugalbandi at G.D. Birla Sabhagar, Kolkata; second position at the Somaiya Youth Musical Competition; fourth position at the Kaalakosh inter-school competition; participation in Xavier’s Got Talent; performances at the Moram Art Retreat; and an appearance on Zee Bangla’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa platform. He has also performed a live Tabla solo at BNI’s Got Talent 0.2. More recently, he performed a Tabla solo at Anunaad in Navi Mumbai and accompanied flute at the Somaiya Ganesh Chaturthi programme at Sandipani Hostel. These experiences have helped him grow both as a soloist and an accompanist. Alongside performing, Rishik has begun sharing his learning through teaching Tabla. He focuses on building strong fundamentals, including posture and hand technique, clarity of bols, taal and laya, theka, coordination, compositions, and the gradual development of speed and control. His teaching is adapted to each student’s age, level, pace, and individual requirements. Rishik considers himself a student of music first, with much more to learn and explore. His aim as a trainer is to sincerely share the knowledge he has gained over the years and help students develop a disciplined yet enjoyable relationship with Tabla. He is comfortable teaching in Bengali, Hindi, and English and offers both online and in-person Tabla lessons, depending on location and feasibility.
