I am an English and Social Studies teacher and have taught in some of the best schools of Mumbai & Surat. My total teaching experience is of sixteen years. I have passion for teaching and love being and interacting with students.
Across schools that I have taught, I have found that children are not able to score well in English subject as most of them do not have a conducive atmosphere to facilitate learning of English subject.They do not converse in English at home or outside the school and hence think in their regional languages while answering English questions. The direct translations they make of regional languages into English is where everything goes wrong.
Hence it is very important to
remove all inhibitions and prejudices along with any hesitancy that the students may have by allowing them to interact without being judgemental or critical about their mistakes but facilitate learning process in a fearless and encouraging atmosphere.
I personally believe that the kind of rapport a teacher shares with students is instrumental in proper learning of any subject as the students then will feel that the teacher is approachable and shows concern with regards to their problems.
I would like to conclude by saying that a concerned, sympathetic, and caring attitude of a teacher goes a long way in building of not only interest of a subject in a student but also improving the grades gradually which is in turn going to be self motivating factor. This is what a teacher should do.
