Overview

An Engineer and MBA from Mumbai University, I have worked in the capital markets and financial services areas for over 15 years. I was in the core team that set up OTC exchange of India, India's first computerized nationwide stock exchange in 1992. I headed various departments during my tenure of about 9 years there. I then set up and headed India operations for a U S company in online transaction processing for 7 years. I then worked with a reputed Mumbai based brokerage, heading their wealth management and distribution functions. I have been a guest lecturer at BSE Training Institute (Bombay Stock Exchange), lecturing on topics related to the stock markets and financial management. I have trained staff at SVC Bank on financial products. I am currently a freelance trainer and have trained bank employees on finance topics, employees on mutual fund certification exams and other related topics. I have contributed to website text and written and edited material on diverse topics during my career. I try to update myself constantly on science , technology, business and social trends, as these help to make subjects more interesting. I believe in making topics interesting by giving real life examples, as it reinforces the learning.

Interest rate is the risk that arise due to the levels of market rates of interest compared with the interest paid for the debt security. Liquidity risk is the risk related to the possibility of not being able to sell the debt security, this can arise from credit risk as well. Reinvestment risk arises from the possibility that when a debt security matures, its reinvestment may be at a lower rate of interest than what the investor is currently receiving.
