My main focus as an educator for the visually impaired is on basic computer training. Students with disabilities can use computers as tools to meet their needs to communicate, access information, write, and perform other educational tasks. With the aid of computer technology they can then focus on their abilities, not on their disabilities. Computers have become all-pervasive, and an increasing number of jobs require their use. Visually challenged students with computer skills can find opportunities in fields previously closed to them. In short, computers have the potential for helping individuals with disabilities become more fully participating and contributing members of our society.
