It might be because, it is seen as not being a "Proper" database like SQL, Server, for example, a lot of database developers look down on it, which is to miss the point. It might be because, it is seen as not being a "Proper" database like SQL, Server, for example, a lot of database developers look down on it, which is to miss the point. Access provides a compelling and functional front end to the database, and there is no reason why that database cannot be SQL Server. Most Access developers will use an external by default as it is more robust and also known to perform better than the internal database. To develop a traditional application on top of SQL Server, using Visual Basic or another programming language is costly and time-consuming. The same functionality can be created using Access in a short time. This can either serve as the permanent solution or as a test system, or proof of concept for a more substantial final development, which will be more cost-effective as any process or logic or data glitches will have been ironed out. So it does have a place - you need to know how it best fits in. I hope this helps. read less
