First of all, mastering Excel takes time, effort and patience. If you want to become an expert in Excel, then you must remember that the more you use this spreadsheet, the easier it gets. Coming back to your question, it is normal to make mistakes in the initial stages; it actually helps you learn better. Although different people make different mistakes, there are some common mistakes beginners make in Excel. A. Many beginners do not realize that their work will be used downstream by someone else who likely has to extract information from them and use it for something else. B. Beginners do not make the extraction of the data from their workbooks easy. Often focusing on the final output and format of their report/analysis and ignoring the powers of Excel to manipulate raw data and aggregate it. C. Not using cell formatting to align columns of numbers. Unless you format cells to a set number of decimal places, the numbers align to the right - regardless of where the decimal point is. That’s not useful if you’re (for example) adding up columns of money. D. Formatting the cell to (for example) two decimal places aligns the figures at the decimal point - with two digits to the right and the remainder of the number to the left. Hope this helps. read less
