Black box and white box testing are software testing methodologies that differ in the level of access a tester has to the software and the focus of the testing: Black box testing Focuses on the software's external behavior and functionality, without any knowledge of the internal workings. Black box testing is less exhaustive and provides low-granularity reports. It's used to identify interface-level bugs and ensure the entire system works as it should. Black box testing is less time consuming than white box testing and doesn't require implementation knowledge. White box testing Focuses on the software's internal functioning, including its source code, architecture, and configuration. White box testing is more comprehensive and provides high-granularity reports. It's used to find bugs from the design level, such as security vulnerabilities, broken paths, or data flow issues. White box testing is more time consuming and expensive than black box testing, and requires highly skilled testers. Some testers combine black box and white box testing, known as grey box testing, to achieve a more thorough inspection of a software application. read less
