Black box testing and white box testing both have their strengths and weaknesses. Some demerits of each are: Black box testing Black box testing doesn't provide a thorough knowledge of the internal design of the software, so it can't test for all security vulnerabilities or data flow issues. Black box testing also relies on external assumptions, so the tester might not know the application's behavioral aspects. White box testing White box testing is complex and expensive, and requires expertise in programming and understanding the code's internal structure. White box testing also requires updated test scripts when the implementation changes frequently. White box testing can't test expected functionality that doesn't exist in the codebase, and it can't test from the user's perspective. The right testing approach depends on the goals of the testing, the expertise of the team, the complexity of the software, and the budget and timeline constraints. Many practitioners combine black box and white box testing to achieve a comprehensive inspection of the software. read less
