What is the major difference between 2D and 3D Animation?

The most obvious difference between 2D and 3D is right in the name. The 2D means two dimensional and 3D means three dimensional. The most obvious difference between 2D and 3D is right in the name. The 2D means two dimensional and 3D means three dimensional. In other words, a 2D animation has flat images that lack depth and can only move vertically (y axis) or horizontally (x axis). In contrast, 3D animations add depth so squares in 2D become cubes in 3D. The 3D animations also move in three directions, vertically (y axis), horizontally (x axis) and forward (closer to you) or backward (farther away from you), which is the z axis.

Yes ! most of the Baby Bboomers remember 2D animation Studio's heyday when cartoons such as "Bugs Bunny," "The Jetsons," and "Tom and Jerry" were popular... All those were made on 2d studio platform. So, Yes ! for movie making, you can go ahead learning 2D Studio.
