Linux failed in dominating desktops, because of Microsoft's underhanded tactics in promoting it's products, like MS DOS, Windows, Office, etc. These tactics make Microsoft seem more like a Mafia gang than a corporation: Blackmail of ministers (example: UK) Bribing council members (example: Munich)
