So prism is a denser medium as that of air when white light enters the denser medium its speed decreases, so does it's wavelength. But you must be knowing that frequency doesn't have any effect because it doesn't get affected by the travelling medium it always remains constant. So when white light enters the prism, its wavelength changes and white light breaks into its constituent colours. Colour of light with a shorter wavelength is violet, and that of longest is red.
