Teaching Experience in detail in Drums Classes
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching students from diverse backgrounds, skill levels, and musical interests. My approach to drum education is centered on building strong fundamentals, while also encouraging creativity and personal expression behind the kit. Key Areas I Focus On: Fundamentals & Technique: Proper stick grip, posture, and ergonomics Hand & foot coordination Rudiments and how to apply them musically Reading & Writing Notation: Teaching students to confidently read and write drum notation Understanding time signatures, rhythmic patterns, and counting Groove & Timing: Mastering the metronome to develop solid internal timing Building versatile grooves across genres (rock, funk, jazz, etc.) Advanced Concepts: Syncopation, ghost notes, polyrhythms, dynamic control Fills, transitions, and soloing techniques Band Setup & Live Playing: I bring my real-world experience as a full-time drummer in two bands to the table I guide students on how to adapt their playing within a band, understanding song structure, dynamics, communication with other musicians, and stage presence Emphasizing the role of a drummer as the backbone of the band, balancing technical skill with musical sensitivity Customized Learning Path: I tailor lessons based on the student's goals, whether it’s casual playing, joining a band, or preparing for live gigs and studio sessions Breaking down complex concepts into simple, digestible steps to ensure steady progress Teaching Philosophy: For me, drumming is not just about playing beats; it’s about understanding the feel, discipline, and responsibility that comes with being a drummer. My goal is to equip students with both technical skills and the confidence to express themselves musically — whether they're jamming at home, recording, or performing live.
