Chiranjit Mukherjee

I am a professional Tabla player and teacher with over 20 years of experience in the field of Indian classical music. My passion for rhythm and percussion began at an early age, and over the years, it has evolved into a lifelong journey of performing, teaching, and sharing the beauty of the Tabla with students around the world. My goal as an educator is to help learners—whether beginners or advanced—develop both technical precision and emotional depth in their playing.

I hold a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Instrumental Music from Rabindra Bharati University, which has provided me with a solid foundation in both the theoretical and practical aspects of Indian classical music. This academic training, combined with years of performance experience, allows me to offer students a comprehensive learning experience that blends discipline, creativity, and expression.

Over the past two decades, I have had the privilege of teaching students of all age groups and skill levels. My teaching focuses on building a strong foundation in rhythm (tala), hand technique, and improvisation, while also introducing students to the cultural and historical essence of Tabla playing. I take great care to adapt my lessons to each learner’s pace and individual learning style, ensuring steady progress and confidence in every class.

Beyond teaching, I am an active performer and have had the honor of presenting my music at prestigious venues across India and internationally, including performances in the USA, Canada, the UK, and Australia. These experiences have not only enriched my understanding of global music traditions but have also helped me bring a broader perspective to my teaching.

I conduct both online and offline classes, making it possible for students from various parts of the world to learn directly from me. My lessons are interactive and structured, combining traditional methods with modern tools such as whiteboard demonstrations and PPTs to enhance understanding. Each session is crafted to ensure that students grasp the nuances of rhythm, composition, and performance.

For students interested in pursuing formal recognition, I also offer music examination facilities under the Prachin Kala Kendra, Chandigarh University. This provides an opportunity to earn accredited certifications while deepening their practical and theoretical knowledge of Tabla.

For me, teaching Tabla is not merely about technique—it’s about nurturing a lifelong relationship with rhythm. I believe every beat tells a story, and through dedication, practice, and passion, students can find their own musical voice. My mission is to continue inspiring learners to explore the beauty of Indian classical percussion and carry forward this timeless tradition with joy and pride.
