Amitava Mitra

I am a professional filmmaker, director, cinematographer, and video editor based in Kolkata, with extensive experience spanning production, post-production, and film education. As the founder and lead mentor at Motion Crafts - Academy & Studio, I specialize in bridging the gap between theoretical film studies and industry-standard practical workflows. My teaching foundation is built on my previous tenure as a multimedia and filmmaking lecturer at Brainware University. I bring real-world, on-set experience directly into my mentorship, drawing from my active work developing original screenplays, executing pre-production logistics, and submitting creative projects to major streaming platforms like SonyLIV. My Key Skills & Mentorship Areas: Cinematography & Direction: Practical training in visual semiotics, narrative structuring, shot composition, and translating script beats into cinematic language. Post-Production & Color Grading: Advanced, hands-on workflows in DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere Pro, specializing in CST color transforms, node trees, and grading for S-Log3 and C-Log3 footage. Audio Engineering & Sound Design: Professional audio mixing, equalization, and procedural sound design utilizing Fairlight and Adobe Audition. Screen Acting: Specialized coaching designed to help actors transition from traditional theatrical stage performance to nuanced, naturalistic acting for the camera. Technical Standards: Deep-dive education on display calibration, color spaces (Rec. 709, DCI-P3), and mastering digital video exports. My teaching philosophy centers on hands-on application rather than just textbook theory. Whether we are analyzing the narrative pacing and color palettes of modern cinema, breaking down a screenplay, or mastering advanced post-production software, my goal is to equip students with the exact technical precision and creative vision required to succeed in today's competitive film industry.
