Saloni, it helps to know shorthand, as a reporter has to quickly note down points which cannot be contested later. I would also recommend you to use a portable voice recorder ( that you can run discretely run inside your handbag). You will have a proof of the interview as well. As for improving English...

Hi Saloni, Short hand writing is not compulsory now days. Most of the Journalists record their stories or interviews in mobile phones. If you are not using any electronic equipment you can note down the important points and edit later.

Hi Saloni, frankly I don't think so. I have been a journalist for the last 7 years and I do not know short hand. You need to be attentive and should never step back from asking questions...whatever boggles your mind. And you are good!

1. Short hand writing is not required for journalist. Now you can record entire interview on your mobile phone also and it will be proof of your work.
