Which Software to learn how to design?
Bhawna K
I am a NIFT graduate with over ten years experience in teaching design in many institutes including NIFT...
I sometimes get flooded by enquiries from students who want to learn a design specialisation, say fashion or jewellery; but are obsessed by learning a software only.
Think about it, do you want to learn a software or do you want to learn design?
Lets see what a software does:
1) easy to learn & use
2) makes designs faster than hand
3) gives more options faster and easier to change designs
But honestly, who is really doing that; the software or is it you?
Design basics like drawing basics, remain the same, no matter which software you pick. The aesthetics that govern design are sacrosanct.
Today a designer could be learning to make the drawing using say, coreldraw or 3DS , but in future, we know that will change. What binds together your journey from one software to another is not the software, but the soft nuances of design basics. To keep yourself current, the software is simply a tool you use, just like a pencil or pen.
So which software to use? Answer is : Any.
As long as you know the design and drawing basics. Ask yourself if you know those first.
