An ion is an atom or a molecule carrying a charge. An ion can either be positively charged if it loses an electron or negatively charged if it gains an electron.
For Eg. in NaCl, salt, Na+ is the positive ion whereas Cl- is the negative ion.
Two ions of opposite charge come together to form an ionic bond such as in NaCl.
