well... I'm a native speaker so I can judge only on the base of my experience. Although the concept of "difficult" is very relative, learning a language shouldn't be a big effort but a pleasure, the learning process must be made easy from your teacher and adapted to your educational background, age, ability to learn etc.. My colleagues already answered very well before of me: phonetically it's not so challenging as other languages instead the grammar and the many exceptions to it could sometimes be. Generally, as a rule that applies to all foreign languages, it requires constant learning (daily practice) and lot of passion. You should have at the start a strong motivation or a good reason to learn it or a big love for the country where that language is spoken. Then it'll be (almost) a breeze ; ) read less

Therefore, it is easier to learn the characters and the sounds of the language at the same time.I did a C1 level Italian course while living in Milan and enjoyed learning the language . At times the grammar also reminded me of Sanskrit :) Now I teach it here in Panchkula and my students are from various backgrounds-undergraduates/ graduates/ post graduates -with or without the knowledge of the English language-It has never posed a problem read less
