I am having nearly 8 years of experience in IT. I have 5 years of development experience in Mainframe and to some extent in Java and Informatica and Teradata. I then shifted to testing profile as an ETL tester because of an onsite oppurtunity. Please suggest what would be wise for me to advance in my career, Testing or Development?

Its better for you to start as Developer. Coz, the way you are well experienced in IT and have knowledge on JAVA. Then dont delay start from Dev side. Hardly it takes around 4-6 months to get a good grip. All The Best :)

Trainer in computers

I would suggest you to go with development experience , as per my knowledge anyone would first go to testing and then in to development and u went the other way round. Now as you have 8 years of experience i think its better time to be the project lead... I hope this answered your question.
