Teaching Experience in detail in Guitar Classes
Greetings! I'm Andrew, a guitarist and educator originally from New Orleans, LA. After graduating from NOCCA in 2008, I studied Jazz Performance and Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music, graduating in 2012. Since then, I’ve performed internationally at major festivals and built a professional career in New Orleans, Boston, and New York City. As a teacher, I work with guitarists at every level—from beginners learning fundamentals to advanced players refining their artistry. My specialties include jazz, blues, rock, funk, R&B, folk, country, and Latin styles, as well as improvisation, chord melody, 7-string jazz guitar, music theory, and recording. My teaching style is tailored to each individual's skill level, technical proficiency, musical interests, and personal goals. My approach balances technical discipline with musical creativity, helping students develop not just technical skills, but a deeper understanding of the guitar and music as a whole. I teach a core set of technical fundamentals and music literacy curriculum that comprises about 1/3 of each lesson, and the rest revolves around music that you are interested in learning––which could be anything from learning to strum some Van Morrison, play a Steve Vai guitar solo, or improvise over Giant Steps. Learning music that you love in conjunction with theoretical concepts and technical skills creates a web of understanding that gives you an entryway into the world of music as a participant and not just a spectator, giving you a lifelong skill that you can always come back to.

Years of Experience in Music Theory classes
20
Teaching Experience in detail in Music Theory classes
I teach the following subjects as they relate to music theory: Practical Music Theory for Guitarists, Music Literacy, Conservatory Audition Prep , Jazz Theory, Harmony, Transcription, Analysis, Berklee Method, Intervals, Circle of Fifths, Ear Training, Improvisational Concepts, Chord Voicing & Substitutions, Song Form Analysis. I teach music theory as it relates to the guitar and the music my students are learning. Music theory is something that is intrinsic to the way I teach guitar, but if theory is of particular interest, I can focus on that aspect more heavily in lessons. I can also help students prepare for music conservatory auditions (jazz, improv) and preliminary music theory exams, as well as be a supplementary source for conservatory level music theory courses (jazz, improv).
