Umashanker Manthena

I am Umashanker Manthena, a trained and professional Carnatic flute teacher with over 20 years of experience in imparting music education. Based in Kukatpally, Hyderabad, I have dedicated my life to teaching the timeless art of Carnatic classical music through the flute. My passion for music and teaching has enabled me to guide students of all levels—from beginners to advanced—with a patient and structured approach.

Over the years, I have developed a clear and methodical style of instruction that helps students grasp both the technical aspects and emotional depth of the flute. Whether in one-on-one sessions or group classes, I focus on nurturing a strong foundation in the traditional values of Carnatic music, along with practical fluency on the instrument.

My classes are offered both online and offline, providing flexibility for students from different locations and schedules. Through personalized attention and consistent feedback, I ensure each student progresses at their own pace while maintaining the integrity of classical training. I welcome students from all age groups and backgrounds who have a genuine interest in learning this beautiful art form.

I hold an MBA from Sikkim Manipal University, but music has always been my primary calling. My academic background helps me maintain discipline and organization in my teaching methodology, ensuring each class is well-structured and goal-oriented. I am also fluent in Telugu, Hindi, and English, which makes it easier to connect with students across different regions.

My teaching goes beyond technique. I aim to instill in students a deep appreciation for Indian classical music and guide them to explore their individual expression within its framework. I believe that learning the flute is not just about mastering an instrument, but about discovering a meditative and joyful journey through sound.

In addition to regular classes, I also provide free demo sessions for those who are considering joining. These demos allow students and parents to experience my teaching style and understand how I structure the learning process. It also gives me the opportunity to assess a student’s current level and plan a suitable path forward.
