There cannot be a more appropriate analogy to describe the significance of transport sector's role in any economy. As we know arteries carry the oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of body; the transport corridors are vital for transporting raw materials to manufacturing centres and vice versa.

Roads in particular and transport sector in general comes under physical infrastructure which plays a catalytic role in the ecosystem of trade and commerce. 

The flagship initiative of our previous govt headed by Mr.Vajpayee is golden quadrilateral that connects major industrial, agricultural and cultural hubs of our country i.e Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkatta and when joined on our map resemble a quadrilateral. later on, many other adjoining cities like Bangalore got a big thrust and it propelled the growth story there. Hence, it goes without saying that transport sector is key to the growth of a country.
