I am a GATE aspirant of mechanical engineering pursuing masters in Robotics at Osmania University. I would personally suggest you to have a grip on mechanical core subjects as we look pursue our career in this field and it isn't as easy as other branches. Get yourself extremely perfect and competitive at main subjects like Thermodynamics, Strength of materials, Fluid mechanics, Machine Design etc.. I can perfectly teach you all those in the both ways for your academics and competitive exams.
