Bengali and Hindi share several similarities due to their common roots in the Indo-Aryan language family. Both languages have evolved from Sanskrit and exhibit parallel linguistic features. They have similar grammatical structures, including the use of subject-object-verb (SOV) word order, postpositions, and case markings.

Additionally, Bengali and Hindi have comparable phonological elements, such as consonant clusters and nasalized vowels. The vocabulary of both languages has been influenced by Persian, Arabic, and English, reflecting historical interactions with various cultures.

Culturally, both languages have a rich literary heritage, with renowned poets, writers, and thinkers contributing to their respective literary traditions. While they have unique scripts (Bengali script for Bengali and Devanagari script for Hindi), they share a common script ancestry.

Despite their similarities, it's important to note that Bengali and Hindi are distinct languages with their own unique characteristics, idioms, and expressions that have developed over centuries in their respective regions.

The Bengali script (used for writing Bengali) and the Devanagari script (used for writing Hindi) both descend from a common ancestor: the Brahmi script. Visually, they have in common a horizontal line which connects the characters at the top which is called mātrā or shirorekhā.

Bengali is the official language of West Bengal whereas Hindi is spoken in other extreme north parts of India like Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, etc. There might be some words in Bengali that sound like Hindi.
