In Karnataka, Andhra and Telegana Hindi is used very often, especially in towns. People are familiar with Hindi. In Kerala though people understand Hindi well they rarely speak in Hindi. In Tamil Nadu speaking in Hindi is never done as there seems to be an emotional taboo attached to Hindi.
