IdentityHaving resolved real life problems through case studies while pursuing masters in finance, I have been training students adopt a problem solving approach that is aided by strong conceptual backing.
My experience during post graduation as well as three years of experience in teaching has apprised me with the challenge that students encounter while applying the concepts during school exams and even entrance exams after school.
In order to prepare students for challenging times, I have been coaching them to inhibit a problem solving approach by having a strong foothold of concepts and thereby inculcating the ability of applying those concepts to solve problems.
How I do it?
- Devote first few lectures in explaining a concept. What's so new about it? Well, at first place, I do not take more than 5 students in a batch, so its easy to observe each student and know more about his/her weak areas. Then, explaining a concept is more about making students participate in the discussion by taking cues from them rather than just throwing the concept on them. At times, I even make use of a case study to explain the concept.
- Testing students on weekly basis. The number of tests might depending on grasping power of the students.
- Conducting discussions after the tests where doubts are cleared and new ways are adopted to explain the concept in a better way.
So Mad Over Concept is all about adopting a problem resolving approach and not scoring 100 on 100!
