The entire experience was not what I expected, mostly, I think, because the district maintained a hands-off approach and let us get results while skirting the methods *required* by Common Core When lower-school students were referred to me, the reading specialist, I would test them to determine what their strengths and weaknesses were then develop a plan and pull appropriate materials. When middle-school students were referred, for the first time, I used the same strategy. That didn’t work. They needed success in the classroom.
