"Shri shyamal das was my hindustaanee raag vocal music teacher for around a decade, when I was younger. He was very patient with us, tolerating our lack of riyaaz with much grace. He taught us very well and faithfully, inspiring in me a deep love for raag, which burns in my heart to this day. Even though I have now learned from two other teachers by now, both very famous celebrity khaandaanee musicians, most of the raags and bandishes (compositions), and all of the 'light classical' pieces I know (bhajans etc) are all thanks to him. If you get a chance to learn from him, take it! He's a gem of a person. All my best to him. "
