Here's why leaves are green: Chlorophyll Absorption: Chlorophyll molecules absorb light energy from the sun, particularly in the blue and red regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. However, they reflect or transmit green light, giving leaves their characteristic green color. Abundance of Chloroplasts: Leaf cells contain numerous chloroplasts, which are specialized organelles where photosynthesis occurs. These chloroplasts are densely packed with chlorophyll molecules, contributing to the overall green coloration of the leaf. Dominance of Chlorophyll: Chlorophyll is the dominant pigment in most plant tissues, overshadowing other pigments present in lower concentrations.
