There are several languages spoken in Morocco and French is one amongst them. Depending on the region, Moroccans first language is either Darija or one of the Berber languages. However, almost all the Moroccan barmen speakers understand French. And, nowadays French and Modern Standard Arabic has been taught to the younger generation in school. As per 2012 study by the Government of Spain, 63% spoke French. Going back to history, French became the language of business and government as France colonized Morocco. Basically, the use of this language is a colonial legacy of the French protectorate. Sultan Abd al-Hafid of Morocco signed the Treaty of Fes under duress and French diplomat Eugène Regnault. The treaty was valid from 1912-1956. Although the French language doesn’t have any officially recognized status, it is considered as a prestigious language in the in Morocco. Moreover, speaking French as a customary language provides this North African country the privilege to be in the political VIP Organization of french speaking countries. On the other hand, the variety of Spanish language spoken in Mexico is called Mexican Spanish. This language was bought to Mexico in the 16th century, and ever since, a vast majority of the Mexican population speaks Spanish.
