Much of now known France was inhabited by Celtic-speaking peoples those days. The French language evolved from Vulgar Latin, which was influenced by Gaulish & practiced by Gauls. Gaulish plus Vulgar Latin added with Italo-Celtic dialect gave birth to French in the period of 58-52BC, in location which is now part of France. read less
