French is a very tricky language when you are learning, but ones you have a good command over the language it becomes more and more clear and comprehend-able. French language has always been like this with all the nuances and silent pronunciations of letters like 'h'

je pratique is a good book, alter ego c1 , i think you should read newspaper and native stuff to be through with the exam plus various sites are having exercises. francais facile is also a good option
