Many possibilities are there. But what you have to do is, first, to get the strumming right and consistent and, second, to avoid unwanted noise from the guitar while trying to maintain a balanced sound. It's amazing how much muscle coordination is involved here and how fine-tuned the articulations have to be to get it right.
