It depends on your personal preference and skill level. Charcoal can be more forgiving than pencil, but it can also be more difficult to control.

Charcoal can be easier if you are good with your style and techniques. But it will be difficult with fine lines or strokes and details where as it will be easier with a pencil. And you erase your mistakes if it's with a pencil but not with charcoal. So it's a 50-50.
