It is obvious to want a teacher with high qualifications, but the focus should be on how effective his/her teaching is and not merely on how highly qualified he/she is. You should look for whether the teacher explains the concepts in a simple and detailed manner, and is not just trying to complete the text book exercises; or that the student should mug up on their subject. We naturally have qualified teachers in schools and colleges but they are more keen to finish the course up in a most general style; but when you seek a home tutor you want a specific style that goes well with your child, otherwise why look for a home tutor at all? Within one or two class sessions the student and the tutor must have a bond of understanding. Rest of the things like demanding ID and address proof from a home tutor is too obvious, but is a must.
