IdentityI am Sapna Goel, an Assistant Professor of Economics at Hansraj College, University of Delhi. Teaching is at the heart of my academic identity. I teach undergraduate courses in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Mathematical Methods for Economics, and Financial Literacy, and I am deeply committed to making economic concepts intuitive, relevant, and empowering for students. Working closely with young learners has shaped the way I think about economics—not just as a technical discipline, but as a tool for understanding everyday life, inequality, and policy.
Alongside teaching, I am a development economist with a strong research focus on labor markets, gender, and structural transformation in the Indian economy. My work examines how economic change affects women’s work, time use, and livelihoods in rural India. I have worked extensively with large-scale datasets such as the India Human Development Survey (IHDS), the Time Use Survey, and the ICRISAT Village Level Studies, using econometric methods including fixed effects models, pooled cross-section regressions, probit models, and instrumental variable techniques.
My doctoral research, “Women’s productive and reproductive work: an analysis of rural India,” studies how deagrarianization, migration, and occupational change reshape women’s economic and social lives. I have published in the Indian Journal of Labour Economics and have written multiple research papers on occupational mobility, caste and employment, and the gendered effects of structural transformation.
