Blood clotting technically means blood coagulation,i.e.the process by which blood is transformed into a solid state. It is a complex process involving clotting factors(calcium ions, enzymes, platelets, damaged tissues) activating each other. In short, coagulation means a process by which blood changes from a liquid form to a gel, forming clot. It potentially results in homeostasis, i.e. cessation of blood loss from a damaged vessel followed by repair. Blood coagulation involves 3 processes,namely- 1)activation 2)adhesion 3)aggregatiom of platelets along with deposition and maturation of fibrin. The 3 stages of this process are-1)formation of prothrombinase- (a)intrinsic system (b)extrinsic system 2)prothrombin converted into enzyme thrombin 3)fibrinogen(soluble) converted to fibrin(insoluble)
