The course is designed for aspiring musicians (specifically pianists/keyboardists) looking forward to learn basic concepts or tools required to build a good foundational vocabulary of Jazz & Blues music. This course is intermediate level and deals in introduction to Jazz & Blues music art form where musical areas like Harmony, Rhythm Studies, Music Theory and Basic Improvisation shall be discussed.

The lessons shall be conducted once a week online via group video call over Zoom/Skype. Please note that the maximum duration shall be 1 hour per lesson and the maximum number of seats are 5 for this course and the slots shall be allotted once the enrollment is completed.

Pre Requisite: The students must have atleast basic music theory knowledge and must be able to read sheet music in order to enroll for this course. Kindly consider the music theory course that I am offering.

Some of the topics that shall be covered in this course are as follows:-

History, Scales, Triads, 7th Chords, 12 Bar Blues, Fundamental Jazz Progressions, Swing & Basic Rhythms, Basic Improvisation, Analysis of Jazz & Blues standards and most importantly Essential Music Listening.

Rythem Bansal is a professional pianist and educator based in New Delhi, India. He has been a recipient of merit-based scholarships from prestigious Berklee College of Music (Boston, USA) for the Five-Week Summer Program; Delhi School of Music and Korean Cultural Centre. Although started with self-teaching, he later studied piano from John Raphael and completed Grade 8 in Piano with merit. Drawn to jazz and improvisational music, he also took lessons from Utsav Lal and Jacob Damelin (Canada). He has won numerous music competitions during his time in high school. He is the house pianist at The Piano Man Jazz Club and performs every Sunday night (Musician Mixers). He is a former piano faculty at Performers Collective (formerly Gurgaon School of Music) and is currently teaching at Blue Notes School of Music and also offering private lessons.
Apart from the solo piano performances, Rythem has performed with great international artists such as George Brooks (USA), Rainer Pusch (Germany), Matteo Fraboni (Italy), James Morton (UK), David Soin Tapesser (UK) and great Indian musicians like Pranai Gurung, Vasundhara Vee, Sentirenla Lucia, Shubh Saran, Sanjay Divecha, Kartikeya Srivastava and Aditya Balani to name a few and he keeps playing with numerous musicians and bands in the city which has gained him the reputation of being one of the most in- demand jazz pianists in India.
He has performed at some prestigious music festivals such as Goa International Jazz Festival, MTV India Music Summit Festival (1st Edition), Pune International Jazz Utsav and Delhi International Jazz Festival. He has also performed in various corporate events at venues like NCPA (Tata Theatre), St. Regis Mumbai, Fairmont, Alila Fort Palace, Neemrana Fort Palace, India International Centre, JW Marriott, ITC Maurya, Leela Palace, etc.
He finds himself drawn to jazz music due to its emphasis on improvisation, which he believes allows musicians to be more creative and expressive. It's his belief that playing jazz is important to musicians of any genre, as it opens up their aural abilities and encourages them to develop musical maturity.
