Experience: Teaching Drawing to Small Kids

Teaching drawing to small kids has been one of the most heartwarming and joyful experiences of my journey. I began conducting weekend art sessions for children aged 4 to 8, and what struck me immediately was their raw imagination and uninhibited creativity. Each child had a unique way of expressing themselves — some loved filling pages with colors, while others were fascinated by shapes and stories.
One of the most memorable moments was when I introduced them to drawing animals using simple shapes. A little girl excitedly turned her circle-cat into a rainbow unicorn because “it looked more magical.” I didn’t correct her — instead, I encouraged the class to make their animals special in their own way. The result was a jungle full of pink elephants, dancing lions, and polka-dotted crocodiles! What made this experience truly special was not just teaching them how to draw — it was learning how to see like a child again. With every class, I discovered how powerful imagination can be when it’s nurtured with patience, encouragement, and joy. Their laughter, questions, and even their messy hands reminded me why creativity is such a precious skill to develop early on.
