Italian is known as the language of romance. It belongs to the Indo-European language family and written in Latin and Italian Braille. The Italian language is native to Italy, San Marino, Switzerland, Vatican City, Slovene Istria (Slovenia) and Istria County (Croatia). The language is widely spoken in Albania, Malta, and Monaco and used to have official status in those countries. Italian is one of the major languages in the European region and it is the third most widely spoken first language with over 65 million native speakers. The Italian language has different varieties as dialect which differs from city to city. One of the major differences between Roman Italian and Milanese Italian are the germination of initial consonants and stress while pronouncing ‘e’ and ‘s’ in some cases. Standard Italian is based on Tuscan and it is a descendant of Vulgar Latin (non-classical). Italian is also spoken in some parts of Somalia. It is one of the widely taught foreign languages in schools across the globe.
