When I tutored secondary and higher secondary students in the commerce stream, my main goal was to strip away the dry, textbook framing of the material and connect it directly to the real world. Many secondary students came to me completely overwhelmed by double-entry bookkeeping, viewing Accountancy as a confusing maze of rules rather than a logical system. To break that barrier, I avoided lecturing and instead used a collaborative, practical approach. When introducing the golden rules of accounting to higher secondary students, we didn’t just memorize "debit what comes in, credit what goes out." Instead, we ran mock business scenarios. We’d pretend a student was launching their own local startup, tracking every transaction—from purchasing raw inventory to collecting cash from a customer. Seeing how a balance sheet naturally balances when you understand the underlying business logic completely shifted their perspective. For subjects like Business Studies and Economics, where dense theories and macro concepts like market demand or fiscal policy can feel incredibly abstract, I relied heavily on real-world market examples. We looked at how actual companies manage their supply chains or how inflation affects everyday prices. Beyond the formulas and definitions, a huge part of my experience was helping students manage exam anxiety. The pressure to score well in higher secondary commerce board exams is immense. By breaking down complex case studies into step-by-step frameworks and maintaining a supportive, encouraging environment, I was able to help students build both their conceptual clarity and the confidence to approach their exams calmly.
