Which is the main source of IP addressses?

The Internet Engineering Task Force is responsible for the standards and protocols used in the Internet, in large measure. Before IETF existed, the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) funded the development of the Internet. I was the lead at Stanford and Bob Kahn the lead at DARPA and we developed the early 32 bit number space: split into 8 bits of "network" and 24 bits of "host". When this formulation proved inadequate, the addresses were divided into classes. Class A had 7 bits of network ID (128) and a high order bits of 0 with 24 bits of host address; Class B had 16 bits of host and 14 bits of network with high order bits 10; Class C had 24 bits of host and 21 bits of network ID with high order bits 110. Class D was for multicast with high order bits of 1110 and 28 bits of multicast address; Class E had high order bits of 1111 and 28 bits for experimental use. Later even this was modified to remove the boundaries among classes and, instead, allow arbitrary bit boundaries to define "net" and "host" - to do this a "mask" had to be associated with each network (called "autonomous system") and the masks needed to be sent around in routing updates so router tables would know for each autonomous system which part of the 32 bit addresses were for "network" and which for "host." see IP address classes

What's the difference between tunneling and VPN?

Gokul

Very general question. A tunnel will classify itself as a low end vpn but if vpn is ipsec for you, then you dont need an ipsec session for running gre tunnels but your data will not be encrypted

Gokul

Tutor

After Finding IP address, you can find many things as listed here 1. Using netsphere, you can find the operating system of the server running on that IP address device and informations realted to OS 2. If that IP address belongs to a LAN/MAN/WAN network, you could easily get into other systems without Username and Passwords using null session 3. On LAN/MAN/WAN, Can get to know other systems information including personal files, shares, resources and there are lots of tools for tracing the network 4. Can send malicious codes like Trojan horse, worms, keyloggers and attack them 5. If this is a IP address of a website, using Whois you can able to find the domain information Apart from above lisitings, You can find many when you google it.
