Hi, learning a foreign language is very good. There is a growing demand in the market for students with a working knowledge of German. With MNCs setting up operations in the region, the requirement for professionals with knowledge of foreign languages is increasing. Germany is home to numerous international corporations like Daimler Chrysier, Siemens, Bosch and SAP. German companies are among the world's largest exporters. You can explore jobs in Corporate world (especially MNCs) that look for people in India who know and understand their language. If you hold any other degree apart from the diploma in German language, you may look out for job opportunities with German companies in that field. You could explore job opportunities as Advertising Copywriter, Advertising Manager, Art Dealer, Bilingual Educator, Court Interpreter, Editor, Fashion Buyer, Foreign Service Officer, International Hotel Administrator, International Consultant, Interpreter, Journalist, Multi-Lingual Port Receptionist, Overseas Personnel Manager, Pharmaceutical Representative, Professor, Proofreader, Publishing Specialist, Reporter, Scientific Linguist, Scientific Interpreter, TESO/ESL Teacher, Travel Agent Tour Organizer etc. Some of these positions may require additional education beyond the knowledge of the foreign language. Job prospects vary from secretarial, executive and public relation assignments as well as for translation and interpretation jobs. Translators are employed with industries, publishing houses, research and government organisations such as the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and embassies etc. Companies such as HP, Oracle, Samsung, Hyundai, LG, Thomson, GE, Aventis, Moulinex etc are employing language experts. Other job opportunities for a language specialist are travel and tourism sector, hotel industry, exhibitions and fairs, airline offices, export agencies, radio stations, trade organizations and teaching.

German sounds more like English than French and the vocabulary is closer. However, German is still an inflected language with four cases, three genders, and adjective endings which change depending on where they are in relation to the nouns: this part takes time to master. German also has a strangely inverted word order when it comes to verbs, especially compound ones. Both German and French use different auxiliaries depending in whether the verb indicates a change of state or motion. French nouns and adjectives are simpler than German, changing only between singular and plural and masculine and feminine. The plural is written differently but often pronounced the same as the singular, so number is indicated by the article or verb forms. French pronunciation is the biggest barrier to English speakers, and a close second is how fast French is spoken in everyday speech: many of the vowels disappear and what non-natives hear is a rapid staccato of consonants all run together (of course English is almost as bad in this regard). They both have their problems but they are both well worth learning as they are major languages of art, science and commerce. Besides, I study them for the fun of it, just like you.
