When two oppositely charged ions (say A+ and B- ) approach each other the positive ion attracts electrons on the outermost shell of the anion and repels its positively charged nucleus. This results in the distortion, deformation or polarization of the anion. If the polarization is quite small, an ionic bond is formed, while if the degree of polarization is large, a covalent bond results. Thus the power of an ion (cation) to distort the other ion is known as its polarization power and the tendency of the ion(anion) to get polarized by the other ion is known as its polarisability. Greater the polarization power or polarisability of an ion, greater will be its tendency to form a covalent bond. read less

Chemistry Master

Chemical bonding is attraction between the atoms or ions to form new substances. Chemical change always results in new substances. Polarisability is defined as distortion resulted in an electron cloud by the influence of any external force.

A chemical bond is an attraction between atoms that allows the formation of chemical substances that contain two or more atoms. The bond is caused by the electrostatic force of attraction between opposite charges, either between electrons and nuclei, or as the result of a dipole attraction.

Chemical bonds are electrostatic forces between two or more atoms which keep the substance intact. These forces are basically forces of attraction between the positive and the negative charged particles. These forces are basically forces of attraction between the positive and the negative charged particles. Polarization is the ability of any substance to have distinct charge separation based on its environment. For example an iron rod when brought closer to a positive charge will induce a negative charge at the nearer end and a positive charge at the farther end thus bringing about polarization. read less

The force of attraction between the atoms of the substances are classified into covalent and electrovalent bonds Orientation of the charges of an atom towards its ends is called polarisibility

Bachelor of Engineering(electrical and electronics)

Formation of a molecule by combination of 2 or more molecules which is usually by the electrostatic force of attraction caused either by electrons or nucleus. Polarizability determines the dynamic strength of the bond and helps know the internal structure of the molecule.

Polarizability allows us to better understand the interactions between nonpolar atoms and molecules and other electrically charged species, such as ions or polar molecules with dipole moments

A chemical bond is an overlap of the atomic orbitals of two or more atoms, formed by the sharing ( covalent bond ) or in rare cases complete transfer ( ionic bond ) of electrons. Polarisability refers to the extent by which an electron cloud ( usually of an anion ) can be distorted by a nucleus ( usually...
