Why embryo sac in flower is called 7 celled and 8 nucleate?
Number of cells = 3 antipodal cells + 2 synergids + 1 egg cell + 1 central cell= 7 cells. BUT the CENTRAL CELL HAS TWO POLAR NUCLEI IN IT. Therefore total number of nuclei = 7 + 1 extra in central cell= 8 nucleate.
