Why nitrogen has catenation property?

Nitrogen posses less catenation property than Phosphorus and Carbon consist. The reason for this lies in the bond dissociation enthalpy of Nitrogen molecule.

Basically Nitrogen has smaller orbit size and weak N-N bond so it very less tends to catenation, it can't be consider in catenation property.

Atoms of the same element link to form chain structures and this ability is known as catenation. Nitrogen being small in size have strong electron repulsive force, therefore it cannot form long chains as we see in case of carbon or silicon. Nevertheless Nitrogen can exist in diatomic state.

Nitrogen doesnot have the orbitals. Since its size is small so interelectronic repulsion occurs and hence n-n bonds become weak. Hence it does not have catenation property. Hope you understand.
