we know from our experiments that, the element attained octet ( Noble gas configuration) is always stable. but why 8 is the stability no....why not any thing else..what is the physical/ electric reason for that

in this universe only noble gases exist in free form means they will not react with any other elements. The requirement for stable form is to attain Octet, the elements which are not having octet configuration willing to attain it, according to the requirement of electron if less those try to get some other element and which are having more ready to loose their electrons this process is nothing but reactions. One general example gas flow high pressure to low and water up to down for stability, not only elements everything that exist in universe try to attain stability. read less

I Assure Better Knowledge

octate can be attain by sharing of electron to have 8 electron. Octate rule is not so far use now days because there are lots of exceptions like maximum number of coordination compound does not follow it.

I Assure Better Knowledge

Every element wants to achieve stability which is possible only when they got fulfilled outer most shell thats why elemennt wants be have noble gas configuration. In fulfilled outer most shell they neither accept or donate electron and are almost unreactive and highly stable.

Science Field

It is because by completing octet any element can be more stable.Hence helium, nitrogen, argon completes octet an is an unreactive in nature.

Every one in nature want to become stable. Elements also do the same . to complete their octet and become stable.

can anyone explain why atoms want to attain noble gas configuration???
Comments

Trainer

to attain stability, noble gas configuration has eight electron in the outermost shell, which is refered to as octate.

Tutor

noble gases have the most stable configuration. The basic nature of all the elements is to attain stability. The less stable it is, the more reactive it is. Since all noble gases are stable, they are non-reactive
