the following are some of the measures which one can take to avoid contracting STDs: 1. avoid having multiple partners to lessen or maybe prevent the chances of contracting STDs. 2. use of contraceptives such as condoms, etc. 3. use of disposable syringes and needles 4.if someone is suffering from STDs he/she should avoid coitus since they may transmit to others. in this case theyshould seek medical treatment as soon as possible since some of them if not treated could prove to be fatal. 5.regular cleaning of groin and genitals is a very good practice because it further lower the chances of contracting STDs which can be tranmitted by casual contact. for example, syphillus is a STD caused by Treponema pallidum which usually goes unnoticed due to its painless sores can be transmitted by casual contact (like shaking hands) when the infection is at its second stage. 6.visiting the doctor if there are any unusual blisters, sore, etc on the genitals or around them. read less
