Primary data is taken by survey like poll, questionnaire etc. like if a company wants to know its popularity on a scale of 10, then it asks to rate itself by a randomly selected 10 K people. if you use data from other sources like journals etc. then it is secondary data.

Primary data is the set of data that is collected by the person itself during a research work whereas secondary data is the data collected from the already done research by someone else for the research work.
